Acetylene
Acetylene, also known as Dissolved Acetylene (DA), is a colorless and inflammable gas. As it is highly unstable in its pure form, it is usually handled in the liquid form. When acetylene is liquefied, compressed, heated, or mixed with air, it becomes highly explosive. As a result special precautions are required during its production and handling.
Acetylene is used:
- For welding, cutting, and heat treating metals and other materials.
- In production of polyethylene plastics (PVC and PVDF)
- In the synthesis of vitamin A and E
