Hydrogen

Hydrogen is the lightest of all gases and the most abundant element in the universe. It is colorless and highly flammable.

Hydrogen is used:

1. For filling balloons since hydrogen gas is lighter than air.
2. In the manufacture of Ammonia, and hence fertilizers.
3. In the production of Methanol, used in the manufacture of many polymers.
4. Along with synthesis gas in separating oxygen from iron ore during the process of steel manufacturing (direct reduction of iron ore).
5. In various industrial applications such as metalworking, flat glass production, and so on.
6. During the process of electricity generation such as for generator cooling or for corrosion prevention in power plant pipelines.
7. In passenger cars driven by hydrogen-powered fuel cells.
